Ten months since my last mix. I suppose that's improvement.
The words "mad props" come to mind, and I think two things: 1) Jannica gets them for the awesome cover art; and B) two words I promise to never use together again — except possibly in reference to angry stage decorations. Alright, so the image isn't an original (it might be a Greg Martin; we're not sure) but with Jann's expert typesetting, it's even awesomer. That's right, I said "awesomer" like it's a real word; what of it?
Anyhow, I actually like this one for the most part. There's some good stuff here. But, some of the transitions are a little rough, I'm still having some issues keeping the volume level, some parts start to drag on a little bit, there are some equalization issues, some artifacts from key and tempo adjustments that I just couldn't do anything about, and some clipping that I probably could have. This is no Sauce. Basically I'm just hoping all of that isn't too noticeable — although calling them all out probably does not help. I also would have liked to close it more gradually, like in Dawn, but I couldn't find a track that flowed nicely from Beautiful, and after working ten months off-and-on, I was honestly just getting tired of it so decided to clean it up and call it done. Art is only ever "done" when someone pulls the plug, I suppose. Oh, well. Still good. Still good.
Yes, I used Gravity again. Yes, it's a different remix, but it's still Gravity. Yes, that's its actual name. Yes, re-using a track is against my rules. No, I don't care that much; it's a good remix. Actually, I've added in a sample from the original mix just to get the reference to "gravity" back into the vocals.
There are some good bits in the lower bass at a few points that might not be noticeable unless you have some good speakers or a decent set of headphones. I hope they come through. I've decided that the guys that do mastering professionally must have really really good ears.
I would also apologize for the brief use of dubstep near the end of Fly — I didn't really have a practical way of removing it without removing the whole track, and I kind of like it otherwise — except that it turns out at least some of you actually like it. It doesn't usually fit my tastes personally, but to each their own, I suppose.
Oh, and Brian — I ended up dropping Power Tower Funk, so you'll want to re-download and give it another listen. Not sure if you'll like what I replaced it with, or if you'll hate me forever now. It's certainly more... oh, let's say "interesting."
Finally, on a completely random note, I've been watching a lot of Dr. Who again lately and so I'm reading this whole little blurb in the voice of David Tennant. But on to the music — allons-y!
