Finally done! It only took eight months to complete. Of course, there was no production done during half of that as I recovered from a hard drive gone AWOL on me. Nevertheless, the final result is here. It didn't turn out quite the way I had intended for it to, but it still came out alright.
It was a very ambitious project. I set out with a theme—or really, a story—in mind to try to express by sequencing other people's music in a seamless way. That story had to adjust around the small library I have. Then after losing my hard drive, and about two months of production with it, that story pretty much vanished—hence the new title. Most of the major elements are still present, and a [thin] case could be made that the story is still told, but I'm not trying to force it. Also, since I'm not saying what that story was, who's gonna know the difference??
There is a lot I wish I could have done differently. Hybrid is once again over-represented. In my ideal world, no single artist would be used more than once. So as if having Armin Van Buuren represented twice was bad enough in my mind, two songs from the same album that much worse.
There is plenty I'm proud of, though. This mix has a lot more of my own touches to it than Thirteen Pieces did. It's stuff that I'm sure is very basic and simplistic for a professional DJ, but stuff I'm rather proud of nonetheless: layering BT's Godspeed over Someone; using Hybrid's Accelerator to drive the transition from Beauty Never Fades to Starting Over; actually managing to use Dreaming Your Dreams, one of my favorite songs (even though the transition in is not among my most favorite); splicing In and Out of Love to allow the transition to Fear, and my personal favorite, restoring Formula of Fear's lyrics to Hybrid's own vocal-less remix.
So I hope you enjoy this. I enjoyed putting it together.
