I'm about to War Doctor all my numbers here because this is not Mix #12. Well, I mean, it is the 12th installment in the... but it's not the... it's... look, I don't understand it either, and I'm doing the damn thing. Just go with it, alright?

This is barely a mix, anyway. It's more like a loosely arranged playlist. Let me explain...

No, there is too much. Let me sum up...

I'm calling this the B-side to First Day of Forever. Maybe it's more like the deleted scenes. Basically, it's a bunch of tracks that I'd tried to work in but ultimately dropped for one reason or another. The tempos were too far off from the rest, or I couldn't get them to flow nicely with the others, or the tone wasn't quite right, or it didn't quite fit musically or thematically... those sorts of things. I've collected a few of them here and sort of haphazardly arranged them.

It turns out that my attempts at being subtle generally end up completely transparent and everybody immediately knows what I'm saying, or else completely opaque and nobody understands what I'm saying, if they even realized I've said anything at all. The dedication on First Day of Forever must have ended up as the latter, as literally nobody seemed to notice. (Either that or nobody read it. I'm still not sure if anybody actually reads these.) It reads, "Dedicated to friends, family, and the new families you're beginning together." What I was trying to say, without saying it outright, was that I dedicated it to friends and family that, by some strange coincidence, all got engaged at more or less the same time: Tim and Angela, Robert and Christine, and Levi and Erin.

As I write this, Levi and Erin just had their wedding a few days ago. They'd picked for what I'm calling their "theme song" a track that I like very much and tried to use on First Day, but couldn't make it work. In this case, Porter Robinson and Madeon's Shelter, I couldn't quite figure out what the lyrics were about. I think it's about raising children, which only takes a little bit of stretching to work with the theme, but it's just ambiguous enough that I'm not completely sure. Its official video is also very WTF melancholy, which is probably a large part of what turned me off of it for the mix. That they made it their theme song made me regret not including it anyway. It is for them, after all.

There was no way to have known, of course. Still, this is me basically trying to correct that. In a sort of half-assed way, admittedly. These aren't properly "mixed" so much as loosely strung together. They're pretty all over the place in a lot of respects, so making a real mix of them isn't something I could make work. This "playlist," as I'm calling it, is the result of fudging it about as far as I could. Even so, there are a few more tracks I still couldn't make work here. There we a lot of iterations on First Day.

So that's the summary.

*checks the length*

So that's the "summary."

Also in this playlist is a track from my own wedding, nearly 12 years ago now. I still always think of our wedding when I hear it, Miriam. It doesn't come on very often, though.
